Explore one of France's ancient hilltop cities while you develop your photography skills. This Experience will bring you to the city of Poitiers, one of France's oldest university cities, known for its picturesque and classical architecture and layout. In Poitiers Justin will also invite you into atelier 161, his work studio in the heart of the city, and talk about his archive and other work. The Experience will be based around exploring and photographing various aspect and areas of Poitiers including the ancient and the modern.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CITY INCLUDE
Parc de Blossac is considered one of the most beautiful parks in France, covering 9 hectares close to the city centre. A number of exquisite churches including Eglise Notre-Dame le Grande, Eglise Sainte-Radeonde, Eglise Saint-Hilaire and Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. Winding old streets and back alleys connecting to a number of squares. Markets including the popular Marché Notre-Dame which features indoor stalls, and outdoor sellers on a Saturday, and on Sunday another larger market on the edge of the city offers a totally different multicultural experience, both offering an exciting insight into the local food traditions and the continuing central role of the market in French life.
THE EXPERIENCE FORMAT
161 Photo Experiences are designed to be fully immersive experiences and you will be doing and thinking about photography day and night. During the day there will be review and discussion sessions and Justin will take the group to different locations in the city where you will have an opportunity to put things into practice and futher develop your photography skills and authorship. Meals will be taken as a group and will offer further opporunities to discuss all aspects of photography and your experiences photographying the city (and many other things).
The Experience will begin Wednesday evening and finish on Monday afternoon after a group lunch.

WHAT TO BRING
Digital camera: Medium format, SLR, mirrorless, or point and shoot compact camera. A smart phone or ipod touch with a camera if you have one. Film camera users are welcome to come on the experience. There are colour film processing facilities available at a photo lab in Poitiers (you will be responsibe for the costs of your film and developing).
(For cameras with changeable lenses, if possible please bring a single focal length 35mm lens on a full frame camera SLR or equivalent 23mm for APS sensor).
SD cards, batteries and charger.
Laptop computer with photo viewing software and SD card reader.
Portable hard drive.
Comfortable footwear. Rain jacket.
Sunhat and sunscreen.

ARRIVING FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND ACCOMMODATION
Participants should aim to arrive in Poitiers by 18.00 on Wednesday 20 May or Friday 10 July. Justin will meet participants at Poitiers train station.
It is recommeded that you travel by train to Poitiers. Direct trains to Poitiers are available from Lille and Paris (including Charles de Gaulle Airport) in the North and Bordeaux in the South amongst other places.
Poitiers also has a small airport, currently with flights from the UK by Ryanair and a limited number of flights from elsewhere in France. It is possible that Ryanair will not be flying to Poitiers in 2020, so please be preapred to travel by train or to fly elsewhere and make an alternative journey to Poitiers. If you would like advice on travel and suggested train / flight times etc, please get in touch.
Various accommodation is avaiable in Poitiers to suit all budgets. There are a number of hotels in the city centre. There are also a few Airbnb rentals offered in the city. More details on hotels etc are available if required. Just send an email.
